Atkins 7 on 7 Football Tournament

After finishing 3-0 in pool play, the Atkins Red Devils fell to the Marion Patriot’s, 28-21, Friday (6-9), in the quarterfinals of the Atkins 7 on 7 Football Tournament at Atkins. The Red Devils had defeated Magnet Cove 17-14, Lavaca 24-14, and Jacksonville 10-9 to win their pool and enter the tournament as Pool B’s #1 seed. Eli Roberson’s 35-yard td pass to Josh Jones gave Atkins a quick 7-0 lead, but Marion tied the game, 7-7, on a 40-yard td pass on the opening play of the series. Lady Apaches Win 4A State Championship

The Pottsville Lady Apaches (33-4) jumped out to a 8-0 lead, and won their first State Softball Championship with an 11-3 victory over the Nashville Lady Scrappers, Friday (5/19), in the finals of the 4A State Tournament at Bogle Field, on the campus of the University of Arkansas, at Fayetteville. Pottsville ran out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Halley Cain singled and Skylar Campbell was hit by a pitch. Both scored after Sophia Hampton was safe on an interference call. Hampton was awarded second base on the call, stole third base, and scored on Kayli Pennington’s ground ball out. The Lady Apaches added a single run in the top of the second inning. Jordan Wright walked, advanced to second on Kira Harrel’s ground ball out, and scored on Skylar Campbell’s single that gave Pottsville a 4-0 lead. Pottsville increased the lead to 5-0 in the third inning. Pennington singled, moved to second on Hannamarie Savage’s single, and scored after Harrel reached on an error. The Lady Apaches widened the lead to 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Hampton led off the inning with a double, and Pennington walked.
